Gail Lewis has become an internet sensation after going viral on TikTok for a video of her quitting her job at Walmart in Illinois, where she worked for 10 years. Its interesting to see that she used a two way radio to announce her transition. So we thought we'll join the crowd by adding our own fun educational twist.
Now Gail didn't need to announce her resignation on radio since all her colleagues are likely in the same building. She could have easily walked up to everyone or called a meeting to announce her resignation, but she used her two way radio to prove everything we've been preaching for over 30 years: that two way radios are the best way for teams to communicate (especially in a business environment). It doesn't matter what your business is; as long as you have multiple people doing different things, and you want your teams to work their best, be like Gail and get two way radios for your staff.
In case you haven't seen it, check out the video that started every thing:
In the days that followed Gail's viral video, thousands of light-hearted reproductions have come to light. Thankfully, most of these memes painted Gail on top of her game: as a very productive staff, in the military, and even as an NFL coach. Pretty much all the memes put her in situations where two way radios are popularly used.
We absolutely loved Gail's radio etiquette
The push-to-talk (or PTT) feature of two way radios mean that when you are pushing to talk, you won't be able to listen. This means you have to talk fast and efficiently. Gail was super efficient as she was able to sum-up her whole resignation speech in two short sentences:
"Attention Walmart, this is Gail Lewis. 10 year associate, Morris, Illinois. 844 signing out. Good night"
~Gail Lewis
Two way radios are for everyone!
Assuming you saw Gail's viral video and got confused about why Gail is using a full on military-looking two way radio to pass a simple piece of information in a store, you're not alone. While the military may have been the first testing ground for these useful devices, two way radios have since become popular for a variety of uses. When it comes to ensuring safety and improving productivity through communications, NOTHING beats the instant communications capability of two way radios. It's no wonder why all the most successful companies in the world ensure their staff are equipped with two way radios.
Traditional two way radios tend to be the most expensive option in the category of push-to-talk devices, as they require licenses and programming to be operational. So we recommend these alternatives:
- PoC radios - These are great for all types of businesses, especially those that require dispatch. PoC radios are like combining smartphones with a PTT button. They connect through Wi-Fi or cellular. We offer everything PoC radios for sale and rental online and in-person at our Grande Prairie store.
- GMRS Radios - These are very affordable and ready-to-use out of the box. They work like walkie talkies, but with slightly better functionalities. We also have these in our shop.
